Michael led the Design Team on the conversion and re-branding of a disused 5-storey office building into a mixed-use development of 21 apartments and commercial office space including ground floor A1, 2 and 3 uses together with associated landscaping. Over a period of years the scheme was refined and revised following which the viability was thoroughly examined before being proven. Planning approval was granted after a positive application process with the proposals being welcomed by the Local Authority as a catalyst for the regeneration in the area.
The conversion involved stripping the original building back to the structure, complete re-cladding and fit-out, new steel structure to the upper floor extensions and new site works. The upper floor penthouses follow an innovative 'upside-down' design configuration, which provides panoramic dual aspect views to Poole Harbour from the main open-plan living spaces The building was completed in August 2013 and early commercial indications are very positive with a healthy proportion of apartments being sold off-plan.
